Workin' nine to five What a way to make a livin'

I started my first day of work again. I'm pooped. For those at PG...I didn't 430 on my first day. Holy crap. Although the building is less stressful than PG. Slower pace. I'd like to say that it was because I don't have to deal with all the administration, however, no one else in the rehab staff appeared overly stressed out either. All the staff was extremely nice and helpful. For those that recall when I worked at Bortz in Michigan, the building was like an exact replica of that. 4 floors, elevators that move really really really slow, and old nursing home feel. The only difference...not all the bathrooms had sinks. Some of the patient's rooms had sinks in 'bedroom' and toilets in the bathroom. Odd. Tomorrow is more of the same. Monday is a trip to the Valley in Sherman Oaks before trying to make it back to Margarita Monday. (And yes, I will continue Margarita Monday. Acapulco is 3 miles from our apartment.)

Getting back to the grind

So Memorial Day is over. After a nice relaxing weekend, things are getting busier for me. Yesterday I met with CareerStaff for work. I most likely will start tomorrow. Before then, I have to fax all my last minute paperwork. Yesterday was drug test and CPR classes. Today is find a fax machine. I also need to put all the camping gear away. I started yesterday, but was interrupted by last minute drug test and CPR class. Pictures will come eventually from the weekend. You can check the Zeras' site. Ours will be later coming. As usual, I'm slow with the pictures.

I consider myself done...

After a week and a half of bitching, sneezing, bloody noses, itchy eyes, bruised foot, stubbed toes, 3 trillion trips to the trash, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, losing stuff I just had in my hand, 30+ (no exaggeration) loads of laundry, not being able to breathe, dusting, vacuuming, late nights, arranging, rearranging, vacuuming, dusting, multiples runs to osh, hundreds of dollars at Target...I feel like I can live comfortably now. This place is the cleanest it will ever be. Scroll down for before and after pics.

We've hung shelves, bought hinges, knobs and magnets for the cabinets, scraped paint, bought microwave cart...this is like a whole new room. Working hard at staying up on the dishes. Doing pretty good for week 2.

Bedroom

There are still curtains and prints to be hung, and some things to organize. But seriously, this is as clean as the bedroom is gonna get. This is Alan and I for cryin' out loud!

The stuff in the corner on the right will get a home soon. Otherwise this is where we sew and do crafts. The walls need photos updated.

Pretty much complete. There is probably a few things that could use a home or change photos in frames.

Support Joe's show!

Ok everyone living in Fresno, Joe has a new gallery show coming up. June 5-July 1 he will be at Fresno City Hall with a reception during June's Art Hop. Alan and I obviously can not make it to Art Hop, but hopefully we can take a peak before the show is done.

ALMOST DONE!!! YAY!!!

Had a busy weekend. It was so nice! Friday night Alan had a 3 man show at IO West (same guys that my parents and brother saw when they visited). It was a good time. I met Alan's co-worker and his girlfriend (Chris and Wendy). They were really cool and nice. I met Alan's new friend Ash. She is a sweetheart. She will be our monthly cleaning lady. After the show, Alan's friends, Alan, and I had some drinks and hung out. It was a good time.

Saturday morning our yard sale started later than planned. We were a little hung over. Got started by 9 though. We made roughly $80 and there is only 3 boxes of stuff left that didn't sell or couldn't dump in the donate-to-the-homeless drop box. We cleaned and started to seriously organized the living room. Almost done! (Then of course it will be time to clean all over since it has been over a week since I cleaned the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.) Some things that didn't sell that take up too much space, we set on the curb. The chair and ottoman we gone within an hour, the table was gone by morning, and our spare vacuum was gone within 15 minutes. Awesome.

Sunday morning we got up early and met Alan's friend Joe for a hike in Pacific Palisades. It was a pretty hike and about 2.6 miles round trip. I enjoyed it. Then we found a place for lunch, went to Big 5 for new hiking boots for Alan, and came home for showers and naps. Got up and worked half heartedly on the house. We were both tired and not in the mood. Instead we found ourselves watching History channel.

My goal today is to find places for all the little crap that is laying around and has no home. Do a good vacuum and maybe spot clean. If I'm lucky, I will run to Target and Staples. It's getting there!

Moving In Part Quatre

While Alan was in class last night I worked on putting hooks up for the coffee cups and scraping paint off the glass doors of the glassware cabinet. It's not perfect, but I'll live with it until I finish that to put off a more unpleasant project.

Today I worked on the bedroom because it wasn't getting cleaned fast enough. After over 1/2 a bag of trash, entire clothes hamper of dirty clothes (mind you we did 3 loads of the 5-load washer at the laundromat just 2 days ago), and a box of random stuff Alan needs to go through, I was ready to vacuum...twice. I also vacuumed as much of the apartment as I could today, moving furniture and boxes as I was able due to space/size/weight. Tonight we get to take the futon and murphy bed frame out to the curb! So hopefully the bed can go in the closet. Also on my agenda is getting the old computer desk taken apart so I can clean under there and move more stuff from the middle of the room to the sides of the room. Yay! Maybe by Tuesday next week we'll be done!

Moving In Part Trois

As you may notice, I am learning to count in French as I do this. I'm sure Bryan and Sarah will correct me if I mess up :)

Today was a lonely day. Wasn't motivated to do much. Got up late and called Pacific Gardens for my last PPD date. Emailed CareerStaff. Went grocery shopping. Browsed the web. Organized my clothes so I can find them faster and put my shoes away. Then I made Alan dinner and talked to Carrie Morris/Albritton. It was nice to hear from someone today. Alan was home long enough to eat and dry dishes before heading off to class. I sound like a sad housewife.

Moving In Part Deux

Below are the 'before' pictures taken on Sunday. I'm lazy today. I have been working non stop on this apartment since we got her Sunday afternoon. Today I took time to do my hair and dress in something other than running pants and a Tshirt so I could meet Alan for lunch. I mailed as much of my application to CareerStaff as I could. I've tried to contact them regarding questions I have about some of the application. I just want to be done with moving...

Moved in...sort of.

Well I'm in LA. I am currently sitting on the couch and baracaded in by boxes and furniture. Just when I think I've made progress, I walk into the doorway of the living room and start crawling over things to get to the couch to rest. Currently, the kitchen is 1/2 put together. Tonight we are going to move the refrigerator to a different location to open up for more cupboard space. The kitchen should be done tonight. 1/2 of my clothes are put away. Anything that hangs up is done. I can't put things in drawers because the dresser is full of junk. Alan didn't get a chance to clean up the bedroom at all before my arrival. I have designated the bedroom as his responsibility. The bathroom is pretty much done. The only thing that may go in there yet is things that I just haven't found. As far as furniture goes, the futon and the murphy bed will be picked up by the large trash pick up on Friday. Conveniently, that takes place this week. That's so awesome. You have no idea how much of a life saver that is. I will say that it is only day 2 in LA and I'm so thoroughly exhausted. No sleeping in this morning. We had to return the UHaul before Alan went to work. I have pics of the initial apartment mess, when I figure out how to post them you will all get an idea of what I'm up against.

Countdown is winding down...

After only 1.5 hours of packing the truck and 4.5 hours of cleaning, our master packer friends, Alan, and I were able to load everything into a 10ft truck and my truck. I'm supposed to be sleeping, but there is no way my body can do that right now. I rested for about an hour, got up and did my back stretches. Alan and I are at Bryan and Sarah's for my last night in Fresno. Thank you! Thank you, Team Nayked for helping us. I doubt I'm going to find a better group of friends ever. We'll see most of you Memorial Day...

MIA

Work finished on Friday. Winding down toward the move. Had my final going away party on Saturday. Thank you everyone for all your support and love. Bryan and Sarah made a slideshow of pictures from the last 4 years. It had a wide variety of events...good memories and some that I wouldn't mind ignoring.

Packing is going well I think. All my desks are cleaned out, most knick knacks are packed. Alan took a couple boxes and books, the TV, and all my DVD's and DVD player last night. There is less distraction now. I started on the kitchen today after i went to the eye doctor. I forgot how bad my prescription is. Might have the glasses shipped to me since they have to order my left lens. My prescription hasn't changed much. .25 change in the right eye and my astigmatism shifted. No astigmatism in the left eye any more, but my right eye's has got worse. Made an appointment to get my 30,000 mile service done on the truck this week. Only things left to do is call the utilities to get them shut off (I think).

Tonight I hope to finish the kitchen. Tomorrow I hope to get the knick knacks finished and work on the clothes. Friday is laundry and last minute stuff.
